Before buying an
„Appenzeller Sennenhund“ one should consider the following
points:
1. You
are buying a living thing and not an object that can be thrown away when you don’t want it anymore.
2. A puppy is not a toy for children to play with. You as an adult should buy it for yourself. If it’s only the children who want a dog don’t even think of it.
3. As a buyer you must remember that you are buying a very lively, temperamental, and independent dog which needs a job.
4. Older people should consider very carefully before buying this breed. It’s not a lap dog and requires strength, energy, and a firm hand from its owner.
5. He
is very suspicious of strangers and in order to minimize this natural tendency, it’s essential to
socialize the dog around people as often as possible and also to attend a
training school.

6. Show your puppy as much of your world as possible, as the saying goes you can’t “teach an old dog new tricks”
7. Be prepared in advance for the fact that the puppy will not yet be housebroken and in the first months will require a lot of patience attention and time.
8. Your new pet sheds twice yearly. This takes two to three weeks each time. It’s important to groom him. Are you allergic to animal hair?
9. You should only buy an „Appenzeller Sennenhund“ after careful consideration and not just because he is beautiful.
10. You should be tolerant and kind to him and respect his nature. He will reward you with a lifetime’s devotion and loyalty.
